They wrote about me… (2015 – 2017)
Giuseppe Piluso – Book Title: “H AS HEART”
“I alone cannot change the world, but I can throw a stone through the waters to create many ripples” this was what Mother Teresa said and this seems to me a good starting point to express a thought on the book by Giuseppe Piluso, “H as heart”. The title already heralds the outlined style, which is always evident, that runs through the whole book… a combination of words even of different languages in the same verse… a bit like those games in which some letters are missing in the words of a verse, but if the first and the last two letters are correct, you can perceive the meaning of the whole passsage… a bit like saying that if we speak the same language of the heart, if we share the same values, well … the different skin, the different religion, the different language does not prevent us from understanding each other. Heart integrates with everything! … like the Latin, mother of our languages, which remains the root of every ratio.
Every respected book generally has a dedication, but in this book I believe that dedication is an integral part of the overall project… I saw Giuseppe moved talking about his little niece and now, after reading his book, I think that a reading key can refer precisely to the aforementioned phrase of Mother Teresa. Yes, because the book is a wish, a hope, even better a spur to build a better world and for who if not for future generations? I remember an ancient proverb of the Navajo people “We do not inherit the world from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children” and so we have a duty to return it better! And how? … In the preface Giuseppe specifies the 4 sections of the book, Dejavù, Stumbling upon a flower (section dedicated to Woman), Going forward, Whirl, to then reformulate the reading order of the sections … He starts with the Woman, then goes Forward, he follows a Dejavù and “ends” with a Whirl, which, however, is not an end, it is a fire, aimed at someone else and, therefore, we return to the section dedicated to Women.
At the end of the book, before the index, Giuseppe nicely says that the index is useless, he suggests to start over again… well, I did it, I started reading the book again in the order suggested sections: 2, 3, 1, 4. And if “it is the flower that bears the fruit”, then one can only begin with Women and underline that Giuseppe always uses the capital letter to indicate them. Who better than Woman represents the source of life?! Her womb guards the flower that will be the fruit of tomorrow, the fruit to which we will deliver the world we have borrowed.
But Woman, here, is seen all-round, in all facets, in all conditions, from all points of view… from child brides to the Virgin Mary, from female athletes to those who have rolled up their sleeves and “rebuilt ” when it was necessary to do it, from victims to warriors, from lovers to dreamers, from mothers to daughters. In short, a great value attributed to Women, to their strength and sensitivity, to the idea of re-baptizing humanity “womanhood”.
The book, however, is not only this, it is a journey, a going forward cultivating one’s dreams and loving, a dejavù to not forget the origins, to learn from the past, because if today we speak fluently Italian, English and Spanish, the Latin remains their origin and from there the rest starts, just as one cannot ignore what it was to build what will be … or, at least, the part that belongs to us.
And then there is the whirlwind … the fire, the preceding moment, the waiting … to start again!
H as Heart is a book of poems, of course, appreciable one by one, but if inserted in the general context it becomes a cylinder … I borrow the words of Fabrizio Caramagna
“Today from the cylinder of the world came a wind ace, a king of kites, a jack of looks of hyacinths, a ten of laughter of children, a seven of serenity”.
